Turia Pitt, a 27-year-old former model, was caught in a fire while running an ultramarathon in Australia six years ago.
64% of his body was badly burned. Doctors said he had a chance to survive.
At the time of the accident, Turia’s boyfriend, Michael Hoskin, quit his police job to look after her. He was always by her side and protecting her. Michael knew he wasn’t going anywhere. Since the accident, Turia has undergone 200 operations. He lost seven fingers and had to recover for more than two years. In 2020, he gave an interview in which he spoke about the horror of a 100km race in remote Western Australia being engulfed in flames.
“I remember seeing my skin sticking to the rocks and the spinifex,” Pitt said, adding that he felt “an explosion of fear.”
In 2015, Michael gave Turia a diamond ring he had purchased in rehab four years earlier. Michael says he proposed to her while they were on holiday in the Maldives.
“When Turia was in intensive care four years ago, I bought myself a diamond ring,” Michael tells The Daily Mail. Turia had to wear a mask for two years to heal from his injuries.
Slowly but surely he began to recover. Michael tells his bride every day, “You’re beautiful.”
The two got married in 2016. Turia would like to thank Michael for all his support during these seven difficult years, during which he spent a lot of time in the hospital.
“I never wanted to sleep next to my partner. Now I think how lucky I am to be able to sleep next to this beauty.
